Held from 10am-12pm at the LaVista Community Center. Workshop admission includes hafla admission, and all performers in the hafla/recital must attend the workshop.  Rectal 2-4pm.

Spanish Fan Fusion

Blending the elegance and attitude of Spanish Flamenco Dance with group-focused Tribal Style Bellydance with Spanish fans, and you have Spanish Fusion!

We will focus on learning a group-focused Tribal technique, which is based on a series of short phrases or combos with a leader in front and back. We will explore following the leaders with cues and a 4x4 format for a fun and dynamic improvised dance.
 Once we get the basics down we will learn some Spanish fans techniques, a few skirt techniques and blend everything together with a selection of Spanish guitar songs for a very elegant and colorful dance.

Our Tribal style is based loosely on FCBD and Gypsy Caravan formats. It’s a safe and accessible style with a lot of repetition and easy-to-follow ideas. You will end the class feeling empowered to add this dance to your repertoire.

You will need a 13-inch foldable fan and 25 25-yard or more dance skirt.  Elianae is selling fans, and we will have a few extra fans available to borrow too, just in case!
 
Instructor Bio: 
 
Connie Lawrance has been dancing for 25 years and teaching most of that time period…currently she is the Director of Tribal Muse from Madrid and Bellyup Dance from Winterset Iowa. Everyone learns the same basic dance combos with cues so that even though we don’t often practice together we share a common language and can easily dance and  perform together.
Tribal Muse has been in existence around 20 years, two of us still dance and travel  together, many of us have been friends for a long time. The past five years we have been employed  by Midwest festivals and the now defunct Des Moines  Renaissance Faire as dancers /cast members. We currently host a yearly Spring workshop and  perform at local Farmer’s markets, the Madison County Bridges Festival and other dance related events.
